Blue and Gold Banquet

Pack 901 celebrated Chinese New Year at the annual Blue and Gold Banquet! We ate cashew chicken with rice, pot stickers made by the cubs, and yummy fruit for dinner. For dessert we ate John's birthday cake and ice cream! (Ice cream was invented in China centuries ago). We enjoyed a martial arts demonstration by a Boy Scout who has his black belt. We enjoyed two skits performed by the boys and a fun awards ceremony. Brother Scribner taught us how to cheer like a rat, a firecracker, and a dragon! Special guests from the council attended our banquet, too. Our pack wants to say thank you to everyone who helped make the evening a success.

Making Pot Stickers

Our Cub Scouts were expert chefs on Tuesday night as they worked to prepare pot stickers for our Chinese New Year celebration. Thank you Sister Rees for sharing your time and talents with our pack!

Dragons

At Cub Scouts this week the boys continued our celebration of the Chinese New Year. During the gathering activity the boys learned to write their name in Chinese. After the flag ceremony we divided into our dens. The Wolves made dragon masks and the Bears and Webeloes worked to create a large dragon head.

Chinese New Year Kick-off

The Cub Scouts all agree that the Chopstick relays were their favorite part of the night! They are preparing to challenge their families at the Blue and Gold Banquet on the 26th!

The Wolves made lanterns for the Blue and Gold Banquet.

The Bears worked on models for a large dragon they will create next week. Some focused on particular parts of the dragon (mouths, heads, tails) while other Bears made plans for the entire outline.

We had a lot of fun as we kicked off the plans for our Chinese New Year celebrations. We started the evening making and solving Tangram puzzles during our gathering activity. (Make sure you try these out with your son. It counts as an achievement if they play it with their families). We created den rules together and then worked on projects with our dens for the banquet. We ended the night with fun chopstick relay races!

Winners' Circle

Our Pack combined with Pack 777 Wednesday night for the annual Pinewood derby. The cub scouts worked hard on their cars and they looked great! Brother McDonald was the MC of the evening and kept us laughing and the races moving right along. In the end, John took 1st place, Thomas took second, and Zackary won third. John raced the winner of Pack 777 and won the title Grand Champion with his win. Everyone showed great sportsmanship! Each boy went home with a certificate and an award. We all want to say thank you to everyone who brought the yummy food and helped clean up! Pack 901 is the best!
